AFDP 2004 Annual Forum to be Held on November 28, 2004 in Sanya

The APEC Finance and Development Program (AFDP) 2004 Annual Forum, organized by the Secretariat for AFDP, will be held on November 28, 2004 in Sanya, Hainan Province, P. R. China.

The upcoming AFDP 2004 Annual Forum will be run under the theme of Financial System Reform: Efficiency and Stability. Included in the agenda are topics covering efficiency of financial institutions, financial supervision and regional cooperation. The Forum will generate a lively exchange of views and experiences that will contribute to policy thinking and lead to policy making on finance and development issues of interest to APEC members. This, in turn, will further contribute to the development of the Asia-Pacific region.

It is expected that about 120 delegates will attend this forum, including senior officials from ministries of finance and central banks of APEC member economies, senior experts from the international financial institutions such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, renowned academicians in the fields of finance and economic development and representatives from other financial institutions.

APEC Finance and Development Program (AFDP), an initiative proposed by China, aims to strengthen capacity building in the APEC region. Through financing research, organizing forum and providing training courses, the Program will boost the capacity of the APEC Economies in the fields of finance and development and explore approaches tailored to the diverse situations of member economies in the APEC region. The Program was officially launched on October 21, 2001. With the support of APEC economies and IFIs, its activities in the past three years, including six workshops and 2 annual forums, has been highly appreciated in the region.

The Secretariat of AFDP is located in the Shanghai National Accounting Institute, a national-wide training base for financial executives in Shanghai, the financial center of China.
