Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center [AFDC) 2006 Biennial Forum Held in Shanghai

Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center (AFDC) 2006 Biennial Forum, sponsored by AFDC and the World Bank, was held on September 21-22 at Shanghai National Accounting Institute.

Under the theme of “Innovation for Development”, and with the presence of officials, scholars and entrepreneurs from Asia-Pacific economies and international institutions, the forum probed into a number of issues of common interest, such as the selection of a way toward innovation, the establishment of a supportive system for innovation, innovation-oriented fiscal and financial policies, international cooperation in respect of innovation, and etc. Its purpose was to raise people’s understanding about innovation in a world-wide scope, to promote communication and cooperation in innovation at different levels and among different nations, to create a better environment for innovative activities, and, finally, to achieve an accelerated and balanced economic development by means of encouraging and protecting innovation and sharing its benefits.

Present at the forum were over 100 delegates from China, the United States, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia and some international institutions. Chinese Vice Financial Minister WANG Jun, together with Vice President Frannie A.Leautier of the World Bank, Vice President JIN Liqun of the Asian Development Bank and Vice Chairman WANG Peisheng of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress, also attended and addressed the occasion.
