AFDC Representatives Visited the World Bank

AFDC joining the Chinese delegation led by the International Department of the Ministry of Finance visited the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG), the World Bank Institute (WBI), the East Asia department of the World Bank and Global Environment Fund from March 5-9, 2008. Discussions with these agencies resulted in broad consensus on many issues.

The highlight of this visit is to review the outcome of the Shanghai International Program for Development Evaluation Training (SHIPDET) jointly sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Finance, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank and AFDC. IEG gave credit to AFDC for its efforts to manage SHIPDET and stated that it would continue to support SHIPDET in providing experts as well as in network building and website construction. It is decided to build SHIPDET into a well-known brand in performance evaluation training through the joint endeavor of all sides.

AFDC and WBI reviewed their collaboration in 2007 and discussed the cooperation issues in 2008. It is agreed to jointly organize the 2008 biennial forum and workshops on SME financing, risk management in commercial banks, and scenario planning. WBI also promised to take steps to assist AFDC to enhance capacity building. The delegation also reached the intention for cooperation in workshops on public finance and rural finance and developing corporate bond market with the East Asia department of the World Bank.
