Nowadays, the financial sector is facing an increasingly complex risk environment and more and more intense market competition. The issues of how to guard against financial risks and how to promote economic development and financial security through regional cooperation have been attracting lots of attention around the region. However, due to lack of sufficient and good financial, technical and economic data, it is very difficult to apply advanced risk management techniques to actual practice. Therefore, the workshop is designed to have an in-depth analysis of the practical problems encountered in credit risk management in emerging markets, advise on the financial regulators in the region, promote communication among officials, academics and bankers, so as to further enhance risk management of commercial banks and contribute to the credit system construction and economic development of the whole region.
AFDC has been attaching great importance to the issue of enhancing risk management and governance of financial sectors of developing countries. Since 2002, AFDC has organized an international seminar on this theme every year designed to enhance risk management and governance in the financial system of the APEC economies. Early December this year, AFDC will again join hands with the Australian Treasury and the Melbourne APEC Finance Center to organize a four-day international workshop on this important theme.
