International Seminar on Developing Corporate Bond Market Successfully Concluded
The International Seminar on Developing Corporate Bond Market, cosponsored by AFDC and the World Bank, was successfully held on September 22-24 at the Shanghai National Accounting Institute. Over 60 participants attended the seminar in Shanghai. Meanwhile, more than 110 people from the Ministries of Finance, commercial banks and security companies gathered at the Distance Learning Centers in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ulan Bator and Colombo and participated in the seminar through videoconferencing using GDLN network.
A number of experts including Mr. Masasto Miyachi, Senior Advisor of the Asian Development Bank, David G. Fernandez, Managing Director of J.P. Morgan, Nitin Jaiswal, manager of Bloomberg, Fook Wah Wong, managing director and CEO of RAM Rating Services Berhad, WANG Chengran, head of Investment Operation Department at Baosteel Group Corporation, Noriyuki Suzuki, Senior Principal Consultant of Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd were invited to speak at the seminar. They touched upon many important issues like the issuing market of corporate bond, corporate bond pricing mechanism, and credit rating system of corporate bond market, information disclosure and corporate bond market transparency. In addition to that, Mr. Noritaka Akamatsu, Regional Advisor for Capital Market Development of East Asia & Pacific at the World Bank, shared with participants in Shanghai and the other four distance learning sites his insights on investor protection of corporate bond market in Vietnam through Videoconferencing.
With the advanced videoconferencing technology, knowledge and experience can be disseminated far and wide. Meanwhile, more and more intellectual resources can be integrated into the learning programs conveniently. Combining face-to-face training and distance learning modes, AFDC’s activities can reach more people and have a greater influence on the enhancement of capacity building of the financial systems in the region. As this case shows, over 170 people in five places can participate in and benefit from the discussion on developing corporate bond market. AFDC will be constantly innovating on better means of spreading its knowledge products in the future.
