Shanghai DLC Representatives Attended the GDLN-AP Business Meeting in Hanoi
The second GDLN-AP business meeting of this year was held in Hanoi, Vietnam from Dec. 1-5, 2008. It was co-sponsored by the GDLN of the World Bank and Vietnam Development Information Center. 49 delegates from 18 Distance Learning Centers (DLC) in 11 Asia-Pacific countries including Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, PNG, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam attended the meeting. Melody Wang and Amy Chen attended the meeting on behalf of the Shanghai DLC.
Chaired by Mr. Philip Karp, Regional Coordinator of East Asia & Pacific of the World Bank Institute, the meeting updated the latest developments of GDLN AP, reviewed the World Bank initiatives, listened to the Governing Committee’s report, and discussed the business plan for the next year. Le Vu, Senior Technical Advisor of Tokyo DLC, shared with all the delegates what they have achieved so far in becoming a technical hub for the region and providing one-stop shopping service and constructing a GDLN-AP website (www.gdlnap.org). Han Fraeters, Acting Manager of GDLN and Multimedia Division of the World Bank Institute, shared with the participants the progress in GDLN global governance reform. Each DLC updated its work progress in the past few months since the last regional meeting in Jakarta. Finally, some regional programs for the next year were put forward and discussed in detail.
On behalf of AFDC, Melody gave a presentation titled “Learning Without Boundary” in which she introduced the work done by the AFDC in the past few months, current work focus as well as work plan for the next year. For the coming 2009, the AFDC proposed a regional program on latest financial situation and trends to be carried out every three months starting from April next year. The first of the distance learning seminar series, which themed Wall Street Financial Crisis and had just been held, has been appreciated in the region. Many DLCs showed their interest in this initiative; in particular, China Development Bank, as a new member of GDLN, expressed their willingness to cooperate with AFDC in future.
Back-to-back with this business meeting, two training sessions on marketing of GDLN activities and learning design were also organized. Participants not only benefited from the training, but also enjoyed the whole experience.
