Shanghai DLC/AFDC delegates attend GDLN-AP 2009 Meeting in Mongolia

    

The first general meeting of the Global Development Learning Network Asia Pacific (GDLN-AP) of the year2009 GDLN-AP first general meeting was held in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, from June 29th  to July 3rd. The meeting, cosponsored by the World Bank and the Mongolian DLC Development Learning Center (DLC), was attended by a total of 74 participants, including representatives from the from 18 DLCs of China, Vietnam, Thailand, East Timor, Australia, Bangladesh, Japan, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Mongolia as well attendees fromas the World Bank, Institute for Development Strategy, and Mongolia’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Melody Wang from the Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center (AFDC) AFDC and Mr. Yanjun Qin from the SNAI Shanghai National Accounting Institute also attended the meeting.

    
   
The meeting was moderated by the World Bank’s Mongolia Country country Manager manager and Resident resident Representative representative Arshad Sayed and GDLN Coordinatorcoordinator, East Asia and Pacific Region, Philip Karp, . Mr. Karp who remarked that the GDLN provides a unique mixture of delivery infrastructure, partnership networks, and an understanding of how to make effective use of modern information and communication technologies for learning and knowledge exchange. The purpose of this meeting has been sharingwas to share experiences on how to make the best use of the learning network to foster economic and social development in the Asia Pacific region.

    

The five-day meeting is was a great opportunity for GDLN Asia Pacific members and partners to assemble and discuss innovative programs and initiatives, the latest network development developments and technologytechnological enhancementinnovations, South-South learning and the integration of Asia Pacific and south Asia.

    

The Shanghai DLC manager Ms. Wang introduced to the participants a series of distance seminars initiated by the AFDC on the Financial financial Crisiscrisis, . These including included: Seminar 1: , “Wall Street Financial Crisis: Development Trends and Countermeasures of the Asian Economies”, ”; Seminar 2: , “Challenges toward Proactive Fiscal Policy”; and Seminar 3: , “Regulation and Deregulation of the Financial System: What Role to Play in the Crisis”. She also expressed AFDC’s interest to workin working with other DLCs to promote new regional cooperation in the near future.
