ADB Train the Trainer Workshop Comes to An End

The Asia Development Bank’s TA6410 Train the Trainer workshop on monitoring and evaluation for participants from the Greater Mekong Subregion came to a successful close this October 9, 2009. The workshop, which began on October 7th, was held by the Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center (AFDC) at the Shanghai National Accounting Institute. This was the last such workshop of this two-year techinical assistance project. During the training, participants examined topics such as monitoring and evaluation of outcome hierarchy, HoVer Diagrams, different evaluation approaches and management for development results. The lectures and experience sharing gave them a deeper understanding of how evaluations are conducted, allowing them to better contribute to the management of public-funded development projects.

Sixteen participants from Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam attended this training workshop. These countries, all developing countries like China, share many of the same public management issues. Questions as whether projects concerned with poverty reduction, development, health and education can achieve their expected outcomes is an issue of common concern for all the policy makers. After this training, the participants will go on to take the Shanghai International Program for Development Evaluation Training, another training activity organized by the AFDC which will provide them with more comprehensive and systematic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation approaches.

On the last evening, the AFDC hosted a special cocktail party for the GMS participants to mark their completion of the two-year training program.
