International Workshop on Financial Policy Planning in the Period of Post-Crisis Hosted in Hanoi
Against the background of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam as well as on the occasion of Sino-Vietnam Friendship Year, the International Workshop on Financial Policy Planning in the Period of Post-crisis , organized by the AFDC and the Institute of Financial Training of the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance was held in Hanoi on January 26th. Over 120 delegates representing various agencies and ministries of Vietnam and China as well as some officials from several international organizations in Vietnam attended this workshop.
A Lead Economist of the Word Bank, experts from the Policy Consultant Group of the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance, senior expert of Vietnamese National Assembly and the Principal of the Ho Chi Minh Economic and Finance University made presentations on topics as macroeconomic policy in the post-crisis period, fiscal and financial policy in 2009 and recommendations for 2010. Dr. Zhao Quanhou from the Research Institute for Fiscal Science of Chinese Ministry of Finance was invited to speak on the trend of financial policy making in China in the post–crisis period. Mr. Nguyen Huu Chi, Vice Minister of Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and Mr. Christophe Bahuet, Deputy Country Director of UNDP Vietnam delivered opening remarks.
The delegates believe that the global economy is starting to recover from the crisis and it is expected that prudent fiscal policies will be taken in the short run. The delegates also suggested that close attention be given to the scale of economic stimulus package, inflation, social and economic stability and other issues that might occur during the recovery. The delegates also talked about how to strengthen cooperation to tide over the crisis and how to readjust the economic structure. This workshop provided a great opportunity for China and Vietnam to exchange and cooperate in the field of economic and macro policies, which will benefit long-term strategic partnership between the two countries.
