Workshop on SME Credit Guarantee Systems in the Asia-Pacific Region was held in Hangzhou

On June 16-18, the Workshop on SME Credit Guarantee Systems in the Asia-Pacific Region was held in Hangzhou, China. The workshop was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Finance of China, China Banking Regulatory Commission, the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam and Bank Indonesia, and was co-organized by the AFDC and the SME Bureau of Zhejiang Province. 50 participants representing China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Russia, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Vietnam as well as PECC, IFC, OECD attended the workshop.

During the three days, participants had active discussions centering the status and trends of SME credit guarantee systems in the Asia-Pacific region, challenges and opportunities for SME credit guarantee systems against the background of global financial crisis, policy framework and regulatory system of SME credit guarantee and evolution and roles of credit guarantee in economic development. They also exchanged viewpoints extensively on the development of SME credit guarantee systems from three different perspectives: policymakers, credit guarantee institutions, and lending institutions. At the end of the workshop, delegates shared each economy’s experience in developing SME credit guarantee system through practical cases, and then participated in a field trip to the Zhejiang-based Uni-Power Guarantee Co., Ltd to exchange ideas on various issues concerning SME credit guarantee.
