Deputy Financial Minister of Vietnam Met with Chinese Delegation
On June 29, Deputy Financial Minister of Vietnam Mr. Nguyen Cong Nghiep met with the Chinese delegation for the Workshop on Finance for Agriculture, Farmer and Rural Issues.
In the meeting, Mr. Nguyen briefed the delegation on the development in agriculture and rural area in Vietnam. He said that Vietnam is now working hard to learn Chinese experience in dealing with agricultural, farmer and rural issues. He himself had been to some rural area of China ten years ago for the issue of agriculture and rural area. Since 1991, the Vietnamese government has been exerting more efforts to develop its agriculture and rural area. Mr. Nguyen also pointed out that it may not be proper for the central government to provide all finance for agricultural and rural development. The Vietnamese government is now considering encouraging central government, local government and individual farmers to share responsibility to provide the finance. Mr. Nguyen mentioned that the farmers are the weakest group in almost any country and Vietnam is eager to learn Chinese experience in using fiscal policies to support agriculture, farmers and rural development.
Mr. Li Kouqing, head of the delegation and deputy Director-General of the Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center, appreciated Mr. Nguyen for his meeting with the delegation and his introduction. Mr. Li mentioned that Chinese government paid more attention to agricultural, farmers and rural issues since the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy. The finance from the central government played an important role in developing rural social security system and new socialist villages. China and Vietnam both have some good experiences to share with each other in dealing with agricultural, farmers and rural issues. Mr. Li said that he believes that this workshop may promote experience sharing between the two sides with regard to agricultural and rural development.
Mr. Nguyen also mentioned that there are lots of similarities between Chinese culture and Vietnamese culture. It is a wish of both countries to establish social equity and harmonious society. The Vietnamese side is now learning from the Chinese side in many aspects and hopes that the Chinese friends may share its experience with Vietnamese colleagues in a systemic and complete way.
Director General of the International Department of Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and president of Vietnamese Institute of Financial Training were at the meeting. The Chinese delegates are from Chinese Ministry of Finance, Research Institute for Fiscal Science and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
