Distance Seminar on Fiscal Policies for Low-carbon Economic Development was held

On Dec.15, the distance seminar on Fiscal Policies for Low-carbon Economic Development was jointly organized by AFDC, the World Bank and Asian Institute of Management. More than 100 participants from government and academia in the Philippines, Vietnam, Mongolia, Nepal, APEC Secretariat, and International Poverty Reduction Center in China joined in the discussion through the Global Distance Learning Network.

Li Kouqing, Deputy Director General of AFDC, chaired the discussion. Ede Ijjasz, Sector Manager of the Sustainable Development Unit for China and Mongolia of the World Bank, presented his research in the low carbon issue, followed by China and the Philippines cases, which were presented by Dr. Wang Guijuan, fellow researcher from the Research Institute for Fiscal Science of China and Federico Macaranas, professor from Asian Institute of Management.

Many participants responded actively with their comments and questions on issues like Clean Development Mechanism, fiscal subsidies and low carbon technologies.  Philip Karp, WBI Asia-Pacific Regional Coordinator and China Program Coordinator of the World Bank, summarized the 3-hour discussion in the end.
