Distance Learning Course on Shared Growth and Rural-Urban Integration held by AFDC
The past few decades has witnessed China’s noticeable progress in poverty reduction. Along with China’s economic and social development, however, urban and rural gaps have been widened in terms of income, education, employment, medical care and others. To eliminate the gaps and reach a balanced development between urban and rural areas is a precondition for a harmonious society and sustainable development, and therefore, has been put on the list of top tasks for the 12th five-year plan of China.
From March 15 to 17, the distance learning course on Shared Growth and Rural-Urban Integration was organized by Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center in collaboration with the World Bank. Over 750 participants from local development and reform commissions, urban planning bureaus, local finance bureaus, personnel and social security bureaus, and policy research offices in central and western regions of China attended the course by video conference through China Development Distance Learning Network.
The course was based on the case study of Guangdong Province conducted by researchers from the World Bank. Local officials from Chongqing Municipality also shared practices and efforts made for rural and urban integration in Chongqing.
