Asia-Pacific Financial Inclusion Forum held in Tokyo

The Asia-Pacific Financial Inclusion Forum was held on 6-8 September, 2011 in Tokyo, Japan. It was organized by the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) in cooperation with the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center (AFDC) and other organizations. Dr. Peng Runzhong attended the forum on behalf of the AFDC.

The forum with the theme of Expanding Financial Access through Regional Public-Private Cooperation mainly addressed three issues: a, expanding the reach of financial services to the unbanked or underserved groups in the APEC region through cooperation between the public and private sectors; b, strengthening knowledge sharing and capacity building to better serve Micro, Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs); and c, seeking policy recommendations in relation to the institutional and economic frameworks of providing financial services to the MSMEs.

Over 100 participants from 20 APEC economies and a few European countries like the UK and Belgium attended the forum. Dr. Peng, director of the AFDC, gave the opening remarks as well as the closing remarks at the forum.
