The Impact Evaluation Techinical Course: How to Manage, Design and Conduct Impact Evaluations held at AFDC

The Impact Evaluation Techinical Course cosponsored by the Center for Learning on Evaluation and Results, the Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center was held during May 19-30 at the Shanghai National Accounting Institute, attracting 37 international participants from 19 countries of Southeastern Asia, Europe, and Africa. The course introduces impact evaluation as a key instrument for determining project effectiveness, informing policy development and improving program designs. It covers commonly used econometric and statistical methods to evaluate the impacts of social and other programs in developing countries.

Ms.Maurya West Meiers, the senior evaluation officer from CLEAR secretariat and Ms.Zhao Min, the deputy director of Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center gave opening remarks and welcomed the participants at the opening ceremony.

 

The faculty teams of this course consist of many renowned professors in the field, such as Dr.Paul Glewwe from University of Minnesota, Professor Petra Todd from University of Pennsylvania, Dr.Rich Tobin, the independent consultant from World Bank, Ms.Maurya West Meiers and Dr.Chen qihui, the associate professor from China Agricultural University. The delivery of the course consists of lectures, class exercises, and group work. Many of the exercises involved case studies using data from actual programs that are discussed in the lectures. The participants had many opportunities to determine options for evaluations for their own programs.
