IMF China Resident Representatives Visited AFDI

3rd December, IMF China Chief Resident Representative Alfred Schipke and Resident Representative Waikei Raphael Lam visited AFDI.

Mr. Schipke had meeting with President Li Kouqing. The two parts made preliminary common ground for future cooperation on capacity building. Then Dr. Schipke had lecture to the postgraduate students on campus with the topic of Global and Chinese Macro-economy Outlook. Mr. Schipke delivered his understanding on global economy that the world has been going to the positive since the second quarter. Developed nations tried to ease monetary policies, and the support of financial market to real sectors is widening. In developing nations, structural pressure is losing strength, and the growing of outside market paved the way for recovery in Asian economies.

For Chinese economy, Mr. Schipke thought that the initiatives that drove Chinese economy is losing its strength. In order to promote economic growth, China must consistently reform and enhance productivity. Mr. Schipke noticed the risk in increasing credit, the supervision of shadow banking, as well as the debts of local governments and in real estate. But he also pointed out that China’s local government only had low rate of debts, so a sound economic development in China is still on the horizon.

After the lecture, Mr. Schipke and Mr. Lam had a meeting with Dr. Zhao Min of AFDI; the 2 sides expressed wishes to more intensive communication and cooperation.
