2017 Asian Evaluation Week was held in Hangzhou, China

From September 4 to 8, the 2017 Asian Evaluation Week was held in Hangzhou, China, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), co-organized by the Independent Evaluation Department (IED) of ADB and the Shanghai National Accounting Institute (Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Institute), and supported by Zhejiang Provincial Department of Finance. Mr. Zhao Mingji, Assistant Minister, Ministry of Finance, China, Mr. Marvin Taylor-Dormond, Director General of IED of ADB and Ms. Xing Zixia, Deputy Director General of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Finance attended the opening ceremony and addressed separately. Professor Li Kouqing, President of the Shanghai National Accounting Institute (Asia Pacific Finance and Development Institute), moderated the opening ceremony. More than 190 delegates from 25 countries around the world and 30 international agencies participated in this event.

 

Performance evaluation as an important supporting tool for public management and decision-making, plays a significant role in fiscal reforms in many countries, and has been more and more widely used in the field of public services. Over the years, governments and international multilateral development agencies have achieved fruitful results by actively promoted the exploration and innovation of evaluation policies, evaluation methods and institutional capacity building. While constantly enriching the relevant theories and methods, the application of evaluation results and knowledge sharing have also been continuously expanded.

 

The government officials and experts who participated in the Asian Evaluation Week had discussed various issues on the performance evaluation, including the new evaluation tools and methods, the application of evaluation in the field of public services, the development of public policy evaluation and etc.

 

In 2016, in order to promote regional knowledge sharing and capacity building, the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China, the Asian Development Bank and the Shanghai National Accounting Institute (Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Institute) jointly launched the inaugural "Asian Evaluation Week (AEW)" in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China.
