China and me

Embarking on a journey that involves studying abroad encapsulates several emotions. Currently, “my study experience in China” is a beautiful, amazing and life changing experience with rich knowledge, cultural amalgamation, personal growth. From its weather, to navigating through the intricacies of a new language, the use of Chinese Apps, the food, the vibrant cultural scenes, every moment was a learning curve while building a reservoir of cherished memories. This essay offers in depth reflection on ongoing journey with emphasis on Cultural Experiences, Educational rigor and Personal transformation I am undergoing.

Educational Rigor and Academic Experiences

My study experience was not without a welcoming and academic environment that demanded diligence and perseverance. The Chinese educational system is not for the faint hearted as its known for its high standard. The experience of second semester cannot be forgotten in a hurry as it was indeed a rigorous one with several collaborative projects that fostered teamwork and innovation. We had passionate teachers that imparted knowledge by marrying theories and practice, while engaging in modern teaching methodologies. My Chinese class was a unique one because it was a whole new learning experience for me especially with the tones. I often struggle with the tones which made it more exciting and fun. I commend the Shanghai National Accounting Institute for their foresight on a blend of accounting and Chinese language which enhanced cultural inclusion and also a unique way of bonding the teacher and student relationship. Language is a way of unifying people.

Cultural Experiences

The cultural aspect is a vibrant part of my experience as it exposed me to new and exciting knowledge of the Chinese people. From the history of the great wall to the beauty of the west lake, arts, cuisine. The wide array of flavors and the use of chop sticks, what was also interesting was the art of calligraphy. The Chinese characters is an art of its kind, the holding of the brush alone is one of a kind. It was interesting to know how history relates to the formation of the Chinese characters.

The festivals are so colorful and full of adventures. So many special places to spend with family. Participating in festivals such as lunar new year, dragon boat festival and many more allowed me to immerse in the local culture. An understanding of the deep-rooted meanings of the culture was possible by our introduction to China teacher. He was instrumental to giving us foundation knowledge of its people. The number of museums in China is unbelievable, the value placed on savoring ancient history is commendable. As it is said you need to know where you are coming from to truly appreciate progress. These memories are what we carry with us and they are truly precious and they make us who we are.

Personal Growth and Transformation

My study abroad experience came with gaining adaptability as it involved living in a new country and change of environment. The resilience of navigating the intricacies of daily life. From the use of WeChat, Alipay and other Chinese apps that makes living in China comfortably. It took time to be able to navigate those apps but it got better with time. In a way the use of the app also helps you to understand the language.

It was a time of self-discovery for me as I discovered so many hidden qualities. My ability to grasp Chinese language sufficient for daily life was very surprising as native speakers are always amazed with my interactions. My love for languages is one of the discoveries i intend to explore. I think that the use of Chinese apps teaches you patience in a way as it takes time to understand and getting used to. My study in China allowed me to build friendship that transcends boundaries and opened me up to new things. My study was not only about academic excellence but also building lasting relationship that can blossom into something beautiful that could promote trade within both countries. There is indeed beauty in diversity.

Before my study in China, I had a different perception of the Chinese people which was portrayed on the news, what they eat amongst other things. My stay in China has proven otherwise, like my Chinese teacher always says “my China is not your China” but now we have same China as we experienced life in China.

I would without question recommend study in China, as my experience was one full of opportunities, learning experiences that transcends the walls of the classroom, cultural immersion, Chinese language mastery, beautiful historical places. It was more than a study program rather a journey to self-discovery, learning and growth that has equipped me to face the future with broadened perspective and a deeper understanding of the global landscape. One special thing I love about the Chinese people is their attitude to work. It is to be emulated.

Let me share with you some pictures of my trips to explore China’s Beauty.
